ITTI Joins AstraLabs Constellation Project to Help Pioneer Space-Native Testing Solutions

Poznań, Poland - In a significant leap toward transforming how we test space technologies, Testspring and ITTI have partnered to deliver the AstraLabs Constellation Project - a pioneering initiative aiming to shift testing into orbit, where real conditions, rather than simulated assumptions, challenge technologies.

Testspring - an expert consultancy company specialising in software quality - identified the critical gap in current verification and validation workflows. Using its proprietary ASTRA Framework - a risk-based, environment-centric testing philosophy - Testspring has proposed a new paradigm: space-native testing, where systems are validated directly in orbit, early in their development lifecycle. Not to test the exact setup but to verify the concept as soon as possible in a real environment.

ITTI agreed to join the project and provide technical advice to ensure that the delivered service is compliant and complete.

Testing in Orbit: From Concept to Constellation

The project will roll out in two stages:

  1. Phase One: Onboard Testing with Standard Platforms

  2. Satellites launching in December and June will carry built-in testing capabilities, allowing teams to validate software and basic hardware functions in actual orbital conditions. These platforms will be used to verify communication, procedures, and how the software affects hardware performance.

  3. Phase Two: Dedicated TestLab Satellites

  4. A custom-built fleet of TestLab satellites will follow, equipped with

  • Optical and mechanical testing capabilities

  • Mimic circuits simulating key satellite subsystems

  • Modular hardware payloads for prototyping and iteration

This offers space-tech teams something they've never had before: the ability to test, break, and refine ideas in space long before full deployment. Testing using orbital platforms is available, but it is cumbersome and costly, leaving considerable potential for the new platform we are building.

Closing the Gap of The Grey Zone of Testing

Today, space systems transition directly from controlled ground testing to high-stakes orbital deployment, with little room to explore uncertainties. AstraLabs' vision, guided by Testspring's ASTRA Framework, fills this void.

Our goal is to shift the process. We don't want to extend lab protocols into orbit. It's about designing test environments that we can use from the start, allowing companies to test their ideas in space long before they complete all the steps that are currently necessary. We want to quickly get the projects into the real environment they will operate in - a place where things usually go wrong.

ITTI: The Right Partner at the Right Time

With its rich expertise in satellite communications, ground control capabilities, and proven mission heritage, ITTI plays a key strategic role in shaping both the hardware architecture and service layer of the constellation. The company ensures that innovation doesn't outpace operability, grounding the vision in what is technically viable and mission-ready.

Testspring and ITTI share the same view - "This is the kind of testing space missions deserve."

From Ground to Orbit: Building the Future of Quality

The AstraLabs Constellation Program looks beyond just building satellites. It's about creating trust in systems, processes, and our ability to adapt space-tech quality control to the complexity of modern missions.

With Testspring leading the charge, and ITTI adding strategic strength, the project is shaping the future of testing - not as an afterthought, but as a first principle.
